‘t Mezennestje is a daycare center with a long-standing tradition in Wingene. We have space for 47 children aged 0-3 years old.

Operation

The children are divided into 3 age groups. Through a daily structure and pedagogical activities, we ensure that each child can develop and thrive as best as possible. For each age group, we have toys and materials that are tailored to the children’s age and development.

The youngest children stay with us in an age group on the first floor. In this age group, we accommodate 18 children. In this age group we mainly focus on providing a sense of security, motor skills and language development, sufficient encouragement and, above all, lots of cuddles. Each child has their own routine, which we try to follow as best as possible.

As soon as we notice that the children need a bit more challenge, they move on to an intermediate group of 8 children. Here we continue to focus on various developmental domains. By working in a small group, we also aim to ensure the children’s sense of security. We asses which areas the children can be further stimulated in and fully commit to supporting their growth in those areas.  

Once we see that the children are ready, they can move on to the age group of the oldest children. There, we prepare them for the transition to preschool: potty training, engaging in real crafts projects, celebrating birthdays together, etc.

We have 9 care givers who are always ready for the care of the children. Additionally, we have 2 butterflies who assist during busy moments and 1 logistics staff member. Everyone contributes their part daily to provide high-quality childcare every day.

"Slaapklas" (nap class) Centrumschool Wingene

In addition to our regular age groups, we also have a nap class in collaboration with Centrumschool. Children who start in preschool have the opportunity to enroll in our nap class. Specifically, this means that we pick up the children from the school around 11:30 AM. They receive a warm meal at our facility and can rest until 1:30 PM. At 2 PM we bring the children back to school.

What we consider important

We highly value outdoor play. As soon as the sun comes out, we take the children to one of our outdoor spaces. For the youngest ones, we have an adapted terrace adjacent to their age group. For children who need more challenge, there is a covered terrace and a sunny garden on the school premises. On Wednesday afternoons, we sometimes use the school’s playground for some good-old-fashioned rough play.

In conclusion: we ensure that our childcare provides an environment where everyone can feel at home.
